Connectivity is the strongest part of the near-term Dholera story, but only some of it is actually open. This guide gives the full picture with honest status labels.
The expressway
Yes. The 109 km greenfield access-controlled Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is reported inaugurated by the Prime Minister on 31 March 2026 and operational. REPORTED It is built by NHAI with a 120 km/h design speed.
Travel time from Ahmedabad is reported cut to roughly 40 minutes to 1 hour. REPORTED Lane count is reported inconsistently (NICDC's ledger says 6-lane; earlier sources say 4-lane expandable to 8), so we label it as reported, verify as-built. Construction cost is cited as about Rs 3,196 cr, or about Rs 4,373 cr including land.
The airport
Dholera International Airport is not open yet. As of July 2026 it is reported about 80% complete after a review by the Union Civil Aviation Minister, with commercial operations targeted for September-October 2026. TARGET
Be careful with the opening date: the airport has a single runway (3,200 m, Code 4E) and its opening has slipped repeatedly since around 2010, so we present the date as a target, never as achieved. The earlier December 2025 target was missed.
The rail
The Ahmedabad (Sarkhej) to Dholera semi-high-speed rail was approved by the CCEA and confirmed via a PIB release on 13 May 2026. Cost is about Rs 20,667 cr for a roughly 134 km double line, described as India's first semi-high-speed rail using indigenous technology, completion targeted up to 2030-31. TARGET
It is planned to connect Ahmedabad, Dholera SIR, the upcoming Dholera airport and the Lothal heritage complex. The often-quoted 220 km/h speed and 45-48 minute journey are press figures; the official PIB release states the cost, length and timeline, not a speed. REPORTED

Port and freight corridor
Dholera sits on the Gulf of Khambhat coast, and the corridor logic ties it to Gujarat's port ecosystem, but a dedicated Dholera port with a firm timeline is not reliably sourced. REPORTED We do not claim an operational Dholera port. The confirmed heavy-connectivity assets are the expressway (operational), the approved semi-high-speed rail and the in-progress airport.
Dholera sits within the DMIC influence zone, which is anchored on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, but a direct Dholera spur off the Western DFC is not reliably sourced or confirmed. REPORTED So we say Dholera benefits from the corridor's influence zone, without claiming a dedicated DFC connection that has not been confirmed.
